What is meant by the term "Metaverse"?

The metaverse is an ever-evolving concept in the digital landscape, promising extraordinary opportunities to billions of people. Modern pioneers are still working on a comprehensive definition of the metaverse. However, the majority of people refer to the "metaverse" as a new type of internet experience, one that is based on a variety of novel technologies.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, one of the market leaders investing in the metaverse concept, the metaverse is a type of "embodied internet." It's something you can enter (via virtual reality) or bring into your reality (through AR).

To delve a little deeper, the metaverse envisions a future in which our physical and digital lives are more integrated. Consider how the new iPhone's LiDAR scanner can scan your surroundings and bring new content into them via your camera. Alternatively, consider how you can now invest in digital forms of art through the use of NFTs. This is an illustration of the metaverse.

According to Unity's Tony Parisi, the metaverse follows a variety of "rules":

There is a solitary metaverse.

The metaverse should be open to all.

Nobody has complete control over the metaverse.

The metaverse must remain open at all times.

The metaverse is hardware-independent/agnostic.

The metaverse is a web of connections.

The internet is the metaverse.

What are the Metaverse's Core Technologies?

Today, the Metaverse's promise is centered on universality and decentralization. It invites us to envision a world in which we have greater control over our digital experiences and can access them more easily.

As the "new internet," the metaverse is still in its infancy, with new technologies constantly enhancing the environment. Outside of the internet itself, the three most prevalent forms of technology associated with the metaverse are XR, blockchain, and AI.
